INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 c. butter, softened
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tbsp. vanilla
3 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
2/3 c. cocoa powder
1 (10 oz.) jar cherries
DIRECTIONS:
Cream butter and sugar, then add eggs and vanilla. Mix dry ingredients and add to the creamed mixture. Shape into 1 inch balls. Place balls 2 inches apart on cookie sheet and press thumb in center. Place 1/2 cherry in each depression. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Cool. Drizzle each cookie with the following frosting: 1 tbsp. butter 1 c. powdered sugar 5 or more tbsp. cherry juice
Melt chocolate and butter in saucepan. Remove from heat, add sugar and 1/2 of juice. Beat until smooth. Add rest of juice to desired consistency. These are the best chocolate cookies I’ve ever eaten.
